We found this restaurant to be in need of huge service boost as far as we are concerned. We stood at the door waiting to be sat on an evening that was very slow. Some of the staff seemed preoccupied doing nothing and simply stared as we waited to be approached. Perhaps; they were not used to having a quiet evening. When someone finally came up to (which seemed like almost 3 minutes) sit us-he attempted to put us in the back corner. There were plenty of seats available, so we asked to be in the middle of the room for a better view. Although, he did not appear to be happy about our desire to change his seating arrangements, he brought us to another table. We waited for another 5 minutes until someone finally came over. I am not going to go over the minute details although they are still fresh in my mind. Here is quick synopsis of our experience: Food was bland, uninspiring and lack basic presentation. The server never once asked if we enjoyed our meal. If he had, we would have told him. Perhaps, better service is reserved for regulars. While every restaurant should shower their regulars with extra care and service-they should not ignore the ones that come in for the first time. It so happens that we also live in the area and decided to give this restaurant a try. Sadly it was a mistake. I have a hard time recommending this restaurant to any friends or family. We would have paid double the price for better food and service.
My goodness..looks can be deceiving as this was quite a disappointment! I understood that the owner was cooking that evening. He/she needs to find a new line of work!
My husband and I had the opportunity to dine without children, and made the terrible mistake of going to Pastacino on Upper James. We have eatten there in the past (many times over the past 3 years)and notice a steady decline in quality of the food and service in the past year. Ordering is difficult. They seem to always be out of Alfredo sauce, which means even a blush sauce is out of the question. The server told us that the cook went to the 'factory' to get more sauce,wait a while -he would be back soon (seriously!!). We chose capelletti with mushrooms and peppers in a 'light' tomato sauce and penne with sundried tomatoes and tomato sauce. My husband had the sicilian salad and I had the chef salad. The chef salad was leaf lettuce with some grated carrot and one wedge of tomato. The sicilan salad had no flavour. After our salad, it took 35 minutes to get our main entrees. It was not worth the wait. The capelletti entree was akin to Chef Boyardee. Mushy. Unappetizing. Disgusting. The sundried tomatoes were chopped up so small, a fork couldn't pierce them, the dish was bland. If this happened once, I would assume they were having a bad day, but this is the third time I have been disapointed with this restaurant. Never going back!!
Does Pastacino mean "Pasta over-cooked"? It felt like I was eating glue. My girlfriend's salad was wilted with not enough dressing. And the waitress gave me attitude when I complained. Not going back.
My pasta was terrible. My order wasnt right even though the waiter checked it three times before hand. My friends pasta also wasnt that good. The pizza was probably the best thing on the menu. The service was okay. The waiter was very nice but our meal took a long time to come. Also the lighting was a bit too dim! Overall it was okay and i would have to be convinced to go back
