It’s fitting that Church Bistro [VS1]should be located in a Toronto Heritage Building. The inviting fusion of Asian, European and Western décor inside reflects the blend of old and new, modern and vintage and commercial and residential characteristic of the 1950s Church Street setting.
There’s a distinct feeling of fitting in and being at home in the busy restaurant with its blend of comfortable Asian-inspired furniture and European-style table settings. Vanilla and light terracotta hues warm the ambience and an eclectic collection of Eastern and Western pictures on the walls make you feel as though you could be anywhere in the world. Only the presence of an artistic painting of a Canadian flag reminds you that you are in fact in central Toronto!
The welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant tends to make customers linger. Of course, they have plenty to linger over because the fusion cuisine at Church Bistro is a delightful and tasty mix of dishes and flavours that tempt international taste buds.
“We’re very happy to have kept the neighbourhood custom which patronised the restaurant before we took over in 2013,” co-owner Mahi Absolo says. “It’s a popular spot for European and US tourists who are taking in the area as well as Toronto clientele and out-of-towners.”
