Long Wait Times, Lots of fees
Most of this happened over several visits to Avicenna over the last year. Granted this is a walk in clinic and I didn't expect much, I was still greatly disappointed. I first went in for a basic checkup due to cold/flu. I even booked an appointment. The wait time for me was 2.5 hours. There was one other patient who waited 5 hours, and when she got fed up, the doctor told her to leave. My actual diagnosis was okay, but that only took 5 minutes, the remaining 40 minutes was a random conversation with the doctor. As I had travelled out of Canada for more than 1 year, OHIP put a freeze on my account and I was in the 90 day reapplication process. I had a basic travel insurance in the interim. Based on the fact that I could not use OHIP, I had to pay $65 dollars for a consultation fee, which isn't so bad as it is covered by the travel insurance. There were a few other tests prescribed as well, many of which I didn't think were necessary, but I didn't mind as my insurance covered it. However, my insurance requires the doctors signature on the claim form. I filled out the form and took it to the doctor who signed it, and just to get a signature on the form cost me 30 dollars. The receptionist said I should be able to claim the amount on a separate form... but that form would also need to be signed, at an additional 30 dollars! As well, the doctor I saw didn't accept credit card or debit card, even though the office was set up with both facilities. If you need to see a doctor, I'd suggest another location.
