Awesome breakfast... love this place
I personally think this place is way better than Angie's or Mel's or any casual breakfast diner I've been to in Waterloo Kitchener. I found Bud's through yellow pages reviews for breakfast, and was convinced to try it after skimming through the great reviews, and boy, do they deliver! Food was fantastic! I had their special with a side of home fries. Their fries are shredded potatoes and fried on the skillet, not the crummy deep-fried chunks of potato from regular breakfast diners. For under $10 (tip included), I was deeply satisfied. I can't wait to go back!
This is more of a comment on the staff than a food review. Recently, my girlfriend lost an expensive earring somewhere during a busy Saturday. On Sunday Morning, we tried to trace our route, and call places we had visited on Saturday. The first call was to Bud's where we had lunch. Much to our relief, they had the earring put away, waiting for someone to call. I immediately went to Bud's to pick it up, and the young lad doing the cooking remarked that he had found it while cleaning up Saturday night. I thanked him and left a small cash reward on the counter. He literally chased me out to my car and placed the cash in my shirt pocket, telling me there is no charge for doing something nice. With honesty like that in this day and age, I would eat there again even if the food wasn't good. And by the way, the food IS good. Very good. Homefries that you simply won't find anywhere else. Good home cooking - food that is just as honest as the staff.
Do not let the somewhat dingy exterior of this place scare you off as it did me! I have lived in the area for 4+ years and, finding myself craving breakfast but too lazy to cook or drive too far, finally decided to give Bud's a try. I ordered a breakfast to go, and Wow! Everything was absolutely perfectly cooked (and I would consider myself fairly picky) price was amazing and the woman at the counter was very friendly & helpful, both on the phone and when I picked up my order. If my first time experience is any indication, Bud's is a hidden gem! One of the things I liked is that you can basically build your own breakfast, so you are only paying for what you want, and nothing you don't. One thing I would say is if you are looking for a fancy upscale breakfast, this is not the place...but if you want an affordable, delicious meal with friendly, down-to-earth service give Bud's a try. I know I can't wait to go back!
Its a very good place what am i talking about its the best place for breakfast and lunch but its olny open form 8am-2pm monday-saturday and sunday its open from 9am-2pm. I love it there i would give it 10 out of 5 stars and i bet u u could not even finsh the meal. Everything is made in front of your eyes and the time u sit down the food is done there very fast. They have home made soups they are very good every one that gos there said it's the best soup they every had.You should go there. ;) :)\
Love the breakfast, best in Kitchener and probably Canada. Unique...everything. A must try, if you can find.
First of all, this is a unique place that's not for everybody. It's more like eating at your happy and busy 'Aunt Bertha's' kitchen table than eating at a restaurant. Having said that, I think it was wonderful and I expect my next visit will be even better now that I know the ropes. You order at the counter -- their menu is more 'a la carte' than 'combo' so it lends itself to choosing how many eggs, homefries or not, coffee or not, etc. When your breakfast is done they serve it at your table. The next time I go I will be sure to say I want the least amount of oil they can use to cook. The scrambled eggs weren't particularly greasy but the potatoes were and would have been okay if the toast hadn't already gotten me to my grease 'fill line' (I forgot to say no butter as I often do). Even though a little greasy the homefries were amazing and I can't wait to have them again. They're made from real boiled potatoes that are shredded (yes!!) and then crisped up nicely like a European rosti! Oh, yummmm! You get your own coffee and cream from the self serve station that sometimes gets covered by the line-up of people waiting to order. I found the people in line very helpful to point out where things were and even hand me things like the carton of half 'n' half. You go in the cooler yourself to get Frank's Hot Sauce, HP steak sauce, jar of no name peanut butter and other condiments. Jams and cutlery are put out to help yourself to by the coffee station. If you don't mind serving yourself it's a nice way to keep your coffee cup full without a wait. The peameal bacon was generous and browned nice and dark in spots (my favourite). If you like it less done all you'd have to do is ask for it that way. The restaurant is small and kind of cramped if it's at maximum capacity like it was when we were there -- the tables can be split up or paired up to some degree depending on where people are already sitting. There's a section of about 4 or 5 tables put together that can block the serve yourself water cooler but I got to it okay and I'm not skinny. It's not got a 'decor' and it's not spotless, but it's clean enough to eat in and it feels homey. I've never been to a restaurant where so many patrons were happy to gab and share with me, a complete stranger. One patron's been going there for 20 years and he knew Bud who opened it and the subsequent 3 other owners. Parking in the small plaza is tight late Saturday morning. We pulled into a spot a Mercedes pulled out of -- we thought that a good omen for the food at a greasy spoon we'd never been to before. A good choice for the adventurous and open-minded but high maintenance, fussy people will hate it and should avoid it.
Amazing foood/people. Def. the best breakfast for the dollar in town
