This little gem in Ancaster is really good. I have had many indan meals over many years in many countries and this ranked up there! It is not your usual run of the mill Indian food. The chef is very creative and the food was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly.
The nicest owners and servers definitely goes a long way, but when the food is this delicious, it just makes it a complete package. The butter chicken is tender and the sauce is delicious, the garlic naan is amazing, as is basically everything we ordered. I really recommend trying the butter chicken for those who are unfamiliar with Indian food as I was. You will not regret it.
I first went to India Village to try a type of food I had never had before. I went in a bit apprehensive but left very impressed and enjoyed the indian food very much! The restaurant itself is very tiny, even with their new expansion. It is decorated warmly and with traditional art and furniture of the culture. It's a bit cramped, but usually isn't too busy so it isn't claustrophobic. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted very warmly by the staff. The owner, an older lady, is one of the nicest people you'll meet. The staff is very attentive, respectful and friendly. Occasionally, there are some communication barriers when ordering (but that is part of the experience, isn't it?). The food is great, and priced extremely well. My friend and I shared a large meal and the bill was only around $20. The portions are very large and could feed way more people than recommended by the menu. The naan bread is to die for, as is the butter chicken. For someone new to indian food, or a veteran of it, India Village is a great place to go. Another interesting thing about this restaurant is that they offer cooking classes so people can learn some of their dishes - what a cool thing!
Mixed emotions about this place. While the service was fantastic, the food was bland and just mediocre. The staff was wonderful, so polite and always smiling. Of the four different dishes we ordered, they ALL tasted the same. It's like they're using the same base for all their dishes. My Kashmiri Chicken tasted identical to the Butter Chicken, all they did was sprinkle coconut and raisins on top. The rice was the only thing that was tasty. This was the most expensive Indian restaurant I've been to...WAY overpriced for the quality you get. I had high expectations from all the review I read on here.
Been many times and I'm relentlessly impressed with this restaurant. Their food is just incredibly delicious, so beautifully spiced and aromic! The atmosphere is colourful and cosy and they recently expanded so there is move room and privacy now. The service is usually great though they can get busy. Their vegetarian and vegan options are the best of any non-vegetarian place I've ever eaten at. I've dined here with many different people and their large menu really accomodates everyone- from vegan, to celiac to meatlover; everyone always leaves full and happy! I reccomend trying the chana masala if you like chickpeas, it has such an amazing blend of spices. Another favorite of mine is the Aloo Gobi Masala, the cauliflower is always tender without being mushy and the dish has a great ginger flavor. Of course you have to try the vegetarian delight appetizer platter, but it is filling. Oh well, I guess you'll have to take some home for tomorrow!
