"I like helping people feel beautiful about themselves," says Katie Marshall, owner of Medical Esthetics by Katie. Qualifying as a medical esthetician in 2010, Katie opened up her own studio in January 2014 after working out of shared premises for four years.
While many clients can benefit from the facials and relaxation treatments found at traditional spas, Katie explains that a medical esthetician is a specially trained and licensed practitioner who can help with skin issues, including acne, hyperpigmentation, aging skin and rosacea. "The medical esthetician has obtained specialized training for treating a plethora of skin conditions using sophisticated clinical management skills and beauty therapy modalities," she points out.
In the city of New Westminster, Katie is the only certified oncology esthetician. "I qualified through the Touch for Cancer and I focus on specific care and treatment of the compromised sensitive skincare needs of cancer patients, she explains.
Katie's passion for the skincare industry ensures that she stays up-to-date with all the latest technologies and treatments. It's knowledge that she enjoys sharing with her clients. "I love to give clients advice on the best treatments and perhaps put some realistic expectations in place,” she says. “I don't like to over-promise and under-deliver, so I'm very honest with my clients."
