The service was great, and the food was good, but as we were leaving at the end of the night we saw a cockroach crawling on conveyor belt at the sushi bar. We notified the server who killed it right away.
sushi pizza was delicious! service needs improvement.
We tried this restaurant about 2 months ago. I was dying to experience the moving conveyor belt, and my husband and I decided to give this place a try to celebrate our anniversary. It turned out to be floating boats on water, and not a converyor belt. We got there when it opened so it was quiet. It was only the 2 of us for the first 30 minutes, we didn't have lots of selections at first, I'd like to come back at a busier time for this reason. But the chefs caught on our preferences (they were observing which dishes we were taking) and made more of them to place on the boats. All the staffs were courteous and attentive to our needs. The atmosphere at the sushi bar is nice, comfortable with warm lighting. They charge you by the colour of the plates, there's 4 - 5 different colours. I gave up after 10 minutes trying to remember what colour was how much as each plate passed by. It didn't take too long for our plates to stack high. We lost track of how many plates. The charge system reminds me of dim-sum except that you don't have a tick sheet in front of you. The tuna sashimi is very fresh and of excellant grade. My husband is a tuna fanatic and we haven't had such good quality tuna in a long time. We took 4 or 5 plates of it. We grabbed many other small sushi, sashimi, various seafood, rolls and more, can't remember all now.....from the menu we ordered fresh oysters, japanese fried chicken bites, veggies udon, and they were overall very delicious. It definietely is one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in Toronto. I couldn't come back too often though, because we ended up spending quite a bit. The only dissapointment was my veggie u-don, which i like mine in a clear broth, but the veggies were pan fried in butter,so the broth was rich, which i didn't enjoy as much. Oh, the dishes on the boat are covered with transarent lids, no need to worry about people talking over them and dusts. If you like Japanese food and wanna try a different dining experience, I recommend it.
I went to Fune for my birthday this year. The food was good, a bit over priced though. I could probably find better sushi for much cheaper. The place was empty so we got our orders in no time at all. I love the atmosphere and next time I go I'm gonna sit at the main table with the sushi boats.
My wife and I took our family to this restaurant before heading to the theatre. Three boys under 11. The maitre 'd welcomed us warmly and seated us at a lovely booth in the corner. All the staff we walked past greeted us and welcomed us. Our waitress managed through the language barrier and served us extremely well. My children loved the atmosphere and especially the food. We arrived just after it opened for the evening so there weren't many other tables but our service was very good and the food was fresh, tasty and great quality. There is also a sushi bar with a flowting sushi train which I would like to try next.
I went for lunch with a few others and the place was packed so it was a good thing we made reservations. The food came pretty quickly but my main dish came before every one else's and I had to wait a good 5-10 minutes before everyone else's dishes came. My roll was decent but definitely not the best I've had... it was nicely decorated but the taste was just adequate.
Just great. If youre trying to go there during business hours you probably want to get a reservation. Otherwise myself and my date both loved it. We had sashimi, maki rolls as well as "special" rolls and all of them were great, especially the dynamite roll with four tempura shrimp in it. Its worth the price!
I love this restaurant. It's the perfect business lunch venue. The sushi is exceptionally fresh 99% of the time (an extremely high strike rate for a japanese restaurant).
I just adore this place -- the sushi is of excellent quality and the service is fast and courteous. The best part is if you like you can sit up at the bar where artfully created dishes float by on small wooden sampan boats -- actually, this might not be a good thing since I absolutely love their sushi and I always find myself eating more than I really should! Great place for an exciting and lively night out with friends.
Food was really good, probably the best Japanese that I have ever had. However, this was on the higher end of my price range for a regular dinner outing; you can easily find slightly lower quality Japanese food in the city for a much cheaper price.
We sometimes go here for lunch during the weekdays. Usually order the sushi special - and have never been disappointed. The fish is always fresh with good-sized portions. The service is usually good - as long as you get one of the girls. I've had a few sketchy experiences when you get the manager. He's got too many things on the go. The atmosphere is great. You can get a bit of privacy and the seats are comfortable. Nice ambient lighting, not too loud because of the separate rooms.
I will start of by saying - what a find! This restaurant is great! My boyfriend threw a surprise party for me there in January/07. A little late with the review, but I still remember it all! I had the flu, but got dragged out anyway - good thing too, there were 15 of my closest friends sitting in the dining area waiting for me. The staff were so accommodating and nice and helped my boyfriend to pick just the right place to sit so that I wouldn't see a thing when I came in. The food was delicious! I had the flu and so opted for something hot and soupy - pork cutlet udon. The broth was clear and not to salty, absolutely none of the MSG flavour on the tongue afterwards. Pork cutlet was soft with a thin layer of crisp around - very well done. My boyfriend ordered the chirashi dinner (I think)... so fresh, good sized pieces of sashimi. Others in the party raved about the food - only downside was it was slightly more expensive than planned. But it was a celebration, so no second thoughts about it! The ambiance is great, but a couple in the dining room ordered something on a sizzling plate of some sort, which smoked and stunk the place up. We left shortly after their food arrived. Have been back multiple times since - all for the floating sushi bar. The tab adds up quickly, especially if you pick the good stuff (i.e. the sushi with spicy scallop...oh yum). But worth it for the experience :) You have to try at least once!
The best Sushi restaurant that I have ever been to. Other than the obnoxious kids sitting behind us (you can't choose who comes into your restaurant, I know!) we had a great time. This was actually our second visit. Next time we'll probably sit at the floating bar.
The sushi was very fresh. I was quite impressed. Not over-done with huge amounts of rice like other places. The steaks and teriyaki chicken looked great, and according to my friends, tasted just as well. Service was great too. Very kind waiting staff, accomodating. Overall, great dining experience.
Everything I ordered was so fresh and delicious. Service was great too, very nice staff.
The atmosphere was great, we ate sushi off little boats that floated around the sushi bar. 2 chefs were there to make whatever you wanted. Careful though, this is a pretty fancy sushi place and your tab could add up.
This is my favourite Japanese restaurant (outside of Japan). The food is pretty authentic. The service is excellent. The ambience is great. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants superb Japanese food.
Kobe beef is the item to seek out at this kitchy sushi bar. Do not order the sushi that floats by on the boat, order fresh. The Kobe is expensive at $65 for 1/2# but worth every bite, The sushi is average.
