Britannia Ornamental Hardware & Gifts is a specialty store offering a wide selection of home hardware, kitchen accessories and almost any functional object for the house. “We strive to carry unique things and offer the best service to fill our customers' needs,” says owner Heidi Krake. “We’re like an upscale general store, with a bit of everything ranging from packing tape to high-end cast iron pots. People come here because we service them on basic, everyday requirements.”
Heidi bought the existing business in 2004. The shop is one of the original stores on Britannia Plaza, with a history dating back to 1955. She was previously in the furniture industry, but was looking for more personal growth and wanted to be in charge of her own career. “It was a great business, but the previous owner wanted to retire,” says Heidi. “The store wasn’t living up to what it could be anymore, but was still well-supported by the community. I refurbished it, listened to the customers and what they were looking for, and the store was rejuvenated.”
