Food doesn't seem to contain filler. Delicate flavors to all dishes. Attentive and friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Will be coming back again. Reasonably priced
Did take out while at work. So, I have time constraints. I hate being told that it'll be 30 minutes when they know full well it'll be an hour.
Went to Diwa last week with family and was very impressed to see the new inside look after the renovation. According to the manager more surprises and additions are on the way to make inside look more charming and attractable. The food and service were excellent as always. The best Indian food and Indian place in area, period.
Food is good, but portions are small and it's pricy. we went pretty simple with chicken. $73 for takeout for 3 people and was disappointed that there were no leftovers.
Spectacular. Perfect. Divine. I can't even say enough good things about Diwa. The food is no-fail delicious at every visit... it doesn't matter what you eat, its all good. If you need a recommendation, ask the owner, Dee. She's lovely and makes excellent recommendations. If you're able to go on a weekday during the lunch hour, I highly suggest the lunch buffet! To die for. Although I do agree with one other poster that it's a bit light on the desserts. But who cares, I come for the curry anyway! Prices are reasonable for a classy, delicious Indian restaurant. I say go!
A friend of mine worked at this place before, and as I am somebody who has experience working in other restaurants and hearing the things she has said, I can honestly say that this manager does not know how to run a restauraint business. There have been previous reviews on her ettiquette and her method of business, and most of them seem to sum her up to the exact image that my friend (her former employee) has painted of her. The things she has told me have made gotten me so angry, that I think other people, AND the manager, should know about this. She would rather accuse costumers of being the problem, or even her own employees, than take responsibility for something that has gone wrong or to make necessary changes. A good restaurant manager knows how to apologize to customers to ensure that they return, and she knows how to accommodate them to make them happy -this one certainly does not. Not to mention, she takes things out on her employees when she is frustrated. She punishes them through taking away arbitrary amounts from their tips. She takes away from their tips if she thinks they neglected a side duty, if they break dishware, or if she felt she had to help. Not only is she the manager, but she is the owner and she is making enough profit without cheaply taking away from the money the employees earn for themselves. Proper managers are there TO help their employees; they aren't supposed to profit from tip if they had to lend a hand here and there to maintain smooth functioning. And they certainly should not be able to take away any amount they see fit. As for dish breakages, good business owners in the restaurant industry plan for such things in a yearly budget. They don't make up an absurd amount to charge their employees when the inevitable breakage occurs. At the place where I work, it's a big joke when a break happens, because one employee is especially known for accidentally dropping dishes. Even when she isn't there and somebody drops something, we call out her name and laugh! There have been too many stories to mention on here. Unbelievable!
The food was incredible, and the restaurant nice, but the portion sizes were pathetic. For example, my vegitable dish was literally a plate of sauce with 3 small dumplings in it and was $11. As my partner put it "We may as well have come in and ordered bread and sauce, because that's all our meal was." We actually had to order more bread to soak up the sauce, so that we actually had something real to eat for our dinner. Tasted good, good atmosphere, but the stingyness with the food insures that we will not be returning.
It was just fantastic. I was not so much in liking of indian food but I decided to join my buddies as they were going to have dinner at Diwa. And I glad i did; the food was just amazing and very flavourful, service and environment was wonderful. The butter chicken and Lamb madras were amazing. The place was very nice inside, can't wait to go back.
We reserved at this restaurant for our Dinner & a Movie group (10 people). Reservation: 5:00pm Movie: 7:00pm. The service was slow for drinks and food and it was obvious we would not get to the theater on time. Therefore my wife & I left early & in a rush to save seats for everyone. I gave the waiter my CC and he returned with the machine (no detailed receipt). Our bill was $67.71 and I gave him a tip of $8.00. The next day I thought the bill was high and called the restaurant to verify the amount. The owner claimed we never advised we were going to the movie theater or the waiter failed to notify her, we never ordered until 5:40 and there was a 15% gratuity added that we should have known about (apparently this was circled on the detailed receipt that we didn't get). In trying to explain & discuss the situation with the owner she continually interupted or talked over me. And unbelievable as it may seem, she actually said that "I was putting down the restaurant because they were Indian".
Being a regular here, every time loved and enjoyed my meal either it was lunch buffet or an ala cart. Diwa has maintained the consistency in flavor, quality and service. I highly recommend this local business to all the food lovers who are looking for a good meal in a good environment……
Always great - love butter chicken . Lunch buffet is excellent value and food. Best Indian in Guelph but dinner service sometimes slow. Nonethess, highly recommended.
First time at Diwa with my friends; this was all you can eat lunch buffet and everything was fresh and very flavorful. The atmosphere was warm and the place was well decorated and clean. I was really impressed with this place. We will be back and try dinner as well…
We visited Diwa for the first time about 3 weeks ago and it was fantastic, glad we booked a table for the Saturday night because people were coming in and being turned away beause it was so busy. The food and service were great, our only gripe was that the Madras dishes which every where else are normally nice and spicy , were a tad too mild and when we asked why, we were told that they had to cater for Canadian taste and that they don't like spicy food(we are British)??? Anyway a nice night out and will be going back again very soon
When you compare Indian food in Guelph area, Diwa stands as #1 in my choice. We have a few good Indian restaurants in area and everyone is different in taste and atmosphere; I think they all cook Indian food but their food preparation comes from different regions of India and I honestly like Diwa's food better than all. I do come here once a week for lunch with fellow workers and did not get disappointed even once. They often rotate their dishes and spice levels are always perfect. I do not condemn any other restaurant in area; they are fine but Diwa has become my favorite and I proudly recommend to all. It’s very cozy and clean place
So delicious! Great portion sizes! Naan - delicious. Rice - delicious. Butter chicken - fab! Masala - even better. I seriously could not stop saying "mmmm" "mmmmm" omg, this is so good" the whole time we were eating our meal. My boyfriend felt the same. Definitely will go back!
We had 5 people in our party and the kitchen was able to get the food out in a timely manner. Overall it was an ok experience, though a number of the dishes were tasty, i found that overall the food was average. The one dish that stood out and I would consider going back for was the Chicken Madras. The lamb Korma was tough and tasteless. The service was good. Very odd location.
When you look at it's surrounding you might not think this place isn't good, but when you get inside, the atmosphere is really comfortable. The lighting is dim; each table has their own candle lit. The leather chairs were comfortable. The food came in decent time, it was a pretty good place to eat in Guelph. I would definitely recommend eating at this Indian restaurant. I think the price was decent at $38 dollars for two people tips and tax included. We ordered rice and nan and that was another 6 dollars so it should have only been 31 to 34 dollars for just the food if you just ordered a nan or a rice and not both. Liked: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Value
We just moved to Guelph and are currently on the hunt for a great Indian place. After having read all the great reviews for Diwa we ordered take-out, and were unfortunately not impressed. The Butter Chicken tasted like ketchup, and the Naan was doughy and tough. I didn't even finish my meal. We will keep looking.
We heard a lot about this restaurant and did a takeout this weekend. The service and atmosphere were great, nice neat and clean place. The food looked very good. The lamb curry was very good but the butter chicken was sweet and not very flavourful, the aloo gobi had very less salt but was fresh, the naan bread was good. Will try some other Indian around before going back.
Best Indian cuisine on this side of Toronto. Had butter chicken, nan bread and rice. Couldn't have been happier! The food did take a bit of time to come out, but it is understandable being a small restaurant and being extremely busy during lunch rush time. Will definitely be back.
