An award winning portrait, headshot and fashion photographer, Alex Waber works out of his modern studio on the edge of historic Gastown. Having a photographer for a father, Alex’s love for the camera began at a very early age. “My dad thrust a camera in to my hands pretty early on, so I’ve pretty much been taking photos for as long as I could walk,” says Alex.
After graduating from the Capilano University Cinematography program, he worked briefly on indie films and music videos before pursuing professional photography. “The knowledge of lighting and visual story telling definitely translated when I made the shift to still photography,” says Alex. His studio features a darkroom enabling him to offer clients both film and digital services to better suit their needs.
“Film can give a nice unique touch,” says Alex, “I did a portrait editorial about experimental musicians who were very heavily into old school gear and analogue processing, so it made a lot of sense to capture them in the same way.”
