History buffs may know 1912 as the year the Titanic sunk, but for the owners of Andrew's on Eighth, the year signifies the date that the Commercial Block on East 8th Street was first built. Today, the historic building in which the café resides has been honoured with a heritage plaque from the City of North Vancouver in recognition of its protected status.
The building was originally a family home, then a grocer and a meat shop. Current building owner Brad Hodson purchased the two-storey structure in December 2010. Formerly the Henderson Block, named for the second owner, the structure is now the Hodson Block.
Business partners Joanne Laubach, Brenda Snowden and Kelly Fearey opened their contemporary coffee bar Andrew's on Eighth in the building's street-level retail space in April 2012, and have retained a loyal fan base of regular customers since its inception.
