After successfully completing his apprenticeship in autobody building in Croatia, Darko Zurkina headed west in the late 1970s. “I was 25 and I decided to see the world, so I came to Canada and started working in collision repairs and I’m still here working away,” says Darko. “I worked at a large repair centre before I decided to open my own shop in 1993 and around this time my son started his body and paint apprenticeship with me.”
Having successfully delivered quality work in collision repairs at his own shop for 17 years, Darko acquired the franchise agreement after his lease expired and partnered with his son to open Burnaby Carstar in 2011. Carstar, a brand with a long and established history in the Canadian repair industry, was a perfect fit for Darko and Hrvoje – a father-and-son team committed to delivering quality work with the technical know-how to get the job done right.
