Residing in a quaint block of Inglewood, The UnCommons is a hub for all things design-related. Everything from beautiful modern furniture to exquisite edibles to beautiful, unique clothing collections, can be found at The UnCommons. The shop is run by three graphic designers – Lisa Davies, James Carless and Ian Davies – who originally started the business based around their graphic design agency. With a focus on inspired design from all over the globe, The UnCommons is the perfect place to find amazing gifts and home items that you won’t come across anywhere else, except right here in Inglewood.
Co-owner Lisa Davies shares the initial inspiration for this shop filled to the brim with handmade and quality designed goods: “At the time we signed our lease, Inglewood was going through a bit of a non-architectural gentrification so we managed to find a spot that was ideal for us and still attainable. We wanted to figure out how we could get beautifully designed products here in Canada since it is so rare to come across them. Shipping can be incredibly expensive and then takes two-three months to get here. So we thought ‘what if we could consolidate a place where we buy designed object that inspire us, bring them in and share with friends and customers?’”
With such an incredible product selection, it is no surprise that they have developed such a large local following. “We just want everyone to be as excited about design as we are,” shares Lisa. “We wanted to make it affordable enough, with approachable prices for everything from bikes to letterpress.”
