Sunnyside Art Supplies owners Pat and Shirl Rowsome have called the Kensington area home for many years. Already a familiar face in the neighbourhood, for five years Pat managed the art supply store that previously occupied Sunnyside's location for 40 years. “We saw our golden opportunity to open our own store,” says Pat, who studied fine arts at the University of Guelph and spent 12 years working in animation. His wife has 20 years of experience in the animation industry and in fact it was art that brought them together: Pat and Shirl first met and fell in love working at a studio in Toronto.
A shared dream for many years, Pat and Shirl opened the doors of Sunnyside Art Supplies in January 2014 and have proudly been serving their community ever since. “It’s been exciting and exhausting,” smiles Pat. “There has been so much goodwill from the community. People are so happy that there is still an art store here.”
