If you’re looking for authentic Greek food in Calgary, there are few options as strong as the long-time local favourite Pegasus Greek Restaurant. "The food is as authentic as you get in Greece," says owner Pomayote Takis Papparis. "We keep the food fresh and charge reasonable prices, so everybody is happy."
While living in British Columbia, Takis worked in Greek restaurants and fell in love with the traditional preparation of Greek cuisine. After moving to Calgary, he wanted to share his love of the food in his new city and opened Pegasus in 1983. "I enjoyed it immensely and wanted to continue," he says. "I had my chance, so I did it."
He honed his craft in the kitchen, serving traditional homemade Greek meals that catered to Western Canadian tastes. At Pegasus, Takis combined what's popular among locals with his own Greek recipes. The food has been a hit, and the current menu is almost identical to the menu he opened with.

I have been frequenting Pegasus for thirty years now. I can remember only twice in that time that the food was disappointing. I have many business lunches there. The reason that I like to take my business guests there is because I will invariably impress them. Many of them have become regulars after being introduced to Pegasus. The prices are of such good value too! The food is authentic Greek. This may cause some people to compare it with pseudo Greek restaurants such as the Broken Plate. People may not expect the dishes to be as they are at Pegasus because they become familiar with the pseudo Greek food that can be found in many places around town. No one prepares lamb like Pegasus. It is always juicy and melts in your mouth. Their Calamari is the tenderest and most succulent of any found in this city. There is no place in the world that doesn't have occasional challenges with service. However, for the most part I have always found the service to good at Pegasus. In conclusion, you will not find anywhere that is as authentic and provides as good a value as you will at Pegasus!
