Anyone who hasn’t heard of the doshi, well, they can be forgiven. The cute-as-a-button creation is the main draw at Square Fish, a sushi-based eatery located in the heart of Toronto’s buzzy Queen Street West. When co-owner Andrea Zhang finally mastered the adorable item, she knew she’d hit upon something special.
Andrea first got her trendsetting feet wet while living in New York City. While there, she watched as all sorts of foodstuff blew up on the foodie scene, witnessing the arrival of everything from the sushi burger to Dominique Ansel’s famed Cronut. Eventually she moved back to Toronto and got to thinking. “Rather than follow American trends, we wanted to do our part in putting Toronto on the food map,” she says.
