Stopped here for breakfast over the Easter weekend.
Walking in, I was surprised at home small it was, and no one really greeted us. We said hello and finally got a gruff hello back.
The place was practically empty. Three other tables were in use, and it was obvious that everyone knew each other. The patrons, despite sitting across the room from one another, maintained a conversation.
The waitress took our order in a perfunctory manner, but didn't offer us a smile or any small town warmth that we hear about but rarely find.
We started with tea and coffee, and I was pleased when I received a goodly sized tea pot.
I had 2 eggs with bacon and toast, while my husband ordered pancakes. I ordered my eggs sunny side up, and they were a bit too goopy in my opinion. There is an easy way to take care of this common problem, but I suppose the chef doesn't know the trick.
My husband liked his pancakes, but it was disappointing to see fake syrup served with them. Ontario is a leading producer of real maple syrup. How hard would it be to serve some up? Charge a bit more, if necessary. It's well worth it compared to that corn syrup junk.
After having 2 cups of tea, I was asked if I wanted more hot water for the pot. No mention of a fresh tea bag, though. I don't like weak tea, so I declined.
We ate our food in relative silence because the locals were talking quite loudly, back and forth. The waitress didn't crack a smile the whole time we were there.
Despite this, we remained in a good mood and left a good tip hoping to cheer the waitress up. No idea if it did, but we enjoyed the rest of our day.
