Disappointing breakfast

This was my first trip to Benny's and I was looking forward to it because I'd heard good things. We arrived just before noon and were given breakfast menus, only to be told that the kitchen was out of eggs. Ok, fair enough, we were there pretty late in the morning. We agreed to order the two breakfast items that didn't include eggs -- pancakes and a fruit salad. (It would've been nice if they'd offered us the lunch menu instead, but whatever). Our food arrived and it was very disappointing. The pancakes were dry tasted like they were made from a mix. It would've been nice to have pancakes made from scratch, with syrup in a glass bottle (instead of a single-serving plastic packet), and maybe a little bit of fruit. The fruit salad, which cost $6.95, was so small it almost could've fit into a mug. It included strawberry slices, cantaloupe, raspberries, and blackberries. No yogurt, no granola. I would have guessed it was a side-dish, not a breakfast meal. The waitstaff was friendly and kindly took 10% off our bill (without us asking) since they didn't have eggs and we couldn't get the exact dishes we'd ordered. Overall, though I was disappointed with this meal, which was intended to celebrate a special occasion. I can only hope that their lunch food is better, but I won't be hurrying back.

Avoid this place at all costs.

Been a while since I was in. The Staff are okay, friendly. But the restaurant was very dead and lifeless while other places of eating were buzzing. Reasons? Undercooked food, Overpriced stale toast with some brushetta topping. Salad was okay, but again way over priced for what you received. Used to be a great place under the former owners, now, Its dismal.

Nice Surprise - New Owner

What a nice surprise, after all the poor reviews - this is under another owner, had a great night with a set meal and a little live music (from the new owner)thrown in. Service was great, first time here, we will be back.

Not for me

Well, this was an eye opener. I have had some decent food here in past years but the last time was exactly that - "The last time". We went in to order a sandwich until I noticed what looked like different layers of different cuts of meat hanging from the blades of the slicing machine. When I mentioned why I had changed my mind about my order there was no reaction - just a 'couldn't care less' shrug. Well we won't be back to bother them.

Has Potential But the Owner.....

Might i say the places new colors i say are a bit to "Deep", Meaning ...not attractive of course! Ever since the leaving of the old owner, the place has been going downhill. I did a IP scan on Foodlover7777 or whatever's account and i found out that the IP address was none ever belonging to the residence of Argo and Sandy... what a shock? Also the treatment of the customers is unprofessional. This place has potential but like most humans we are, the least things we like is being told what to do.

Need some passion in there

We have been here a few times, and are disappointed every single time. Once we went for all day breakfast - but the server refused to poach eggs for us, since the pot was off??? The servers were also all standing around text messaging, which is annoying. Today, we ordered the famous chili, first its 5.95 for a small bowl with toast. Fine... they call it "famous" so we went for it. Its just watered down and not very tasty...plus I'm not sure it was even real ground beef. Never again. Same prices as Pane Fresco which is way better... too bad Bennys, I have heard the restaurant used to be great - now its a waste of money.

As I arrived I could tell it was clearly different. I was nervous about some of the things I heard about the change, and about the new owners sandy and Argo. But I figured the new pollished dinner menu and interior was worth a look. As my family and I ordered we hear them screaming at the employees. We order the pizza, some pastas with garlic bread the appetizers and the veal Parma on a bun. All was clearly processed and frozen, which wouldn't be a big deal at a mcdonalds. I saw them use microwaves to cook everything including the sauce to heat it up. Then at the end my family made sure i was aware i wasnt the only dissapointed person so I made a small complaint and was yelled at in the same way the employee was. They made sure I knew the food was "good enough" for the rest of the customers they have and he gave me my money (I didn't request it) and he quickly hurried me out the door. I would never go back if the food was free. Also I read some of the reviews and was interested to see the only good one since they took over was by foodlover7777 I think and that's sandy the owner.

One of the Worst Places to eat!!!

As soon as I walked in Benny's Deli there was a big heat wave that came into my face. It was hotter in the restaurant then it was outside. I asked why there was no air conditioning on and the owner Argo said because the doors were open. So I suggested maybe close the doors and turn on the air conditioning, he said no I cant do that if you dont like it then maybe your not suitable to eat here. After that I left. After talking to some friends they also told me that the food there was terrible and the onwer Argo and is girlfirend Sandy who also works there were both completly rude. They have no manners and it shows on the way they treat there customers.

Waited 45 minutes for bacon & eggs. Owner was rude and uncaring and did nothing to fix situation.Signs everywhere to tell you what not to do. Please get rid of the TIP jar at the cash register.

Rude rude rude

Waited 45 minutes for bacon & eggs only after the owner yelled at me because I dared to ask the kitchen to prepare a dish with scrambled eggs instead of poached. Customer's were leaving because they had paid and didn't get their meal for over an hour.Tables were dirty, condiments were non existant. No parking near the restaurant. Will never return.

BURLINGTON BREAKFAST TRADITION GONE BAD It is unfortunate that what used to be a thriving restaurant at breakfast time has gone so far downhill. Recently waited 1/2 hour after ordering and paying without any sign of breakfast order When we enquired of owner how long it would be(as we had to put more money in the parking meter) he got upset and said "I'm swamped" When we questioned this statement and indicated there were only 4 other people in the restaurant he got upset and indicated that he thought we did not want breakfast and would refund money We indicated we did want breakfast but when one member of our party went to put money in the parking meter the owner came to the table and threw the money down saying he did not want to serve us. This restaurant used to be packed at breakfast on weekends but since new owner took over about a year ago has gone steadily down hill. Other reviews have voiced simlar issues

Love what the new owner has done to the place...

Love what the new owner has done to the place. the new bar that was but in is stunning. argo the new owner is so very charming and funny. the place looks great with the new paint and decor. not to mention the nickle brook beer on tap great price and love the new hours of operation. there open till 11 so if your craving a sandwitch and a beer the perfect place to go down town burlington and watch the game on there new 50 plasma TV. you go guy. ps love the new cappacino maker excellant . we will tell all our friends to come bye.

slowly fading away

The restaurant looks the same, but is very different. I have only been in a couple of times since the new owners have taken over. Both times the orders came out wrong and then they (new owner I think) argued with us that we were in the wrong. I know mistakes can be made but to have them tell me that I made the mistake is something I don't need. Quite sad to see changes for the worse happening already. Not the way I would try to get customers.

Very sad

Very sad to see a well run family owned business go downhill so fast. We use to go a minimum of 2-5 times a week (more if we could sneak a day off work) Always were greeted and treated like family. Never had a problem in 12 years. Since the new people have taken over we've been three times every time food poor, good service non existent. Never will go back again.

Breakfast on the Patio

We go almost every weekend and sometimes during the week for breakfast. Food is great, service can be understandably slow when they are very busy (i.e. long weekends) and the patio on Lakeshore is nice in the summer. Would recommend it to anyone. Plus, it's great to support a family owned and operated business.

We eat breakfast here almost every week-end. Wouldn't know how to start a saturday morning without Benny's famous deli. Very popular for a reason. We really like the people behind the counter. Food is always good and served fast even on their busy mornings.
