If Dr. Jennifer Scott wins the lottery today, she will still be working in her clinic tomorrow. “I was fortunate to know my career path from a very young age,” she says. “I’ll be a veterinarian until it is physically impossible. Many of the doctors at Sundance Animal Hospital feel the same.”
With an honours Bachelor of Science degree and a special interest in animal behaviour, Dr. Scott went on to earn her Doctorate in veterinary medicine with distinction from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. She opened Sundance Animal Hospital in August of 1994 and has been happily helping Calgary's pets ever since.
“I am a general practitioner with an interest in everything including skin, eyes, teeth, animal behaviour and so on,” Dr. Scott says. “I’m not a specialist in any area. I can refer to one of Calgary’s two practices that are comparable to a human hospital with specialists in areas like surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, and radiology. They have ICUs, MRIs, and everything else but on a referral basis from your general practitioner,” says Dr. Scott. Her concentration is primarily dogs and cats. “Though I do see guinea pigs, ferrets, and caged pets too,” she says. Dr. Scott is also on the Practice Review Board for the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.
