After being a teacher for 25 years, Ruth Wilsdon was looking for a career change. A friend suggested she tap into her passion for animals by boarding cats, and the idea for The Cat’s Meow Inn was born.
Before she could open for business, Ruth needed a proper home for the felines. She built a large addition to her house, creating a space specifically for the cats to romp around in. “It’s nice,” says Ruth. “I don’t have to go anywhere because it’s attached to my house." By 2004, she was ready to open the doors to her new home away from home for cats.
A unique characteristic of The Cat’s Meow Inn is what Ruth refers to as “the cat condos”. The private rooms were built for the cats to reside in instead of cages, and they were constructed with the cats' comfort in mind. The three-level condos are three and a half feet by four feet by five and a half feet tall. “Some have windows for the cats to look out,” explains Ruth. “There is a place in the middle of the building with climbing towers and toys.”
