“When you hire someone to take care of your dog, it’s like hiring someone to take care of your kids,” says Amber Roy, owner and founder of Black Collar Society, a high-end dog walking and pet service company. “Dogs can be tough to handle sometimes. I take some therapeutic phone calls from owners having trouble with their dogs.”
Amber has loved dogs since she was a kid and has plenty of experience with them. Her schedule and constant travelling meant she couldn’t own one herself, so she started Black Collar Society to spend time with her favourite animal. “I just needed a way to hang out with dogs,” says Amber. “Initially, so I could get my doggy fix by boarding here and there, and then it grew into a pet service business.”
Her quickly expanding business has Amber thinking of the future. “I would like to have a facility and build it from the ground up and have a daycare and grooming and be all-encompassing,” she says. “It’s the best job in the world. It’s not exactly easy, and can be stressful, but I get to hang out with dogs. I get to play with dogs every day.”
